About our region
The fortified town of Dinan is indisputably one of the most beautiful
towns in Brittany. Encircled by its historic ramparts, the
town possesses a unique and amazing architectural heritage
successfully preserved through the centuries.
Its belfry, churches, museums, half-timbered houses and
narrow streets crammed with delightful shops and restaurants
to suit all tastes, ensure your visit will be a truly unforgettable
experience.
Visit the theatre, or participate in the numerous festivals
throughout the year. (Music in the streets, jazz in the bars,
La Fete des Ramparts, La Route du Cidre).
Because of the prime situation of the
house at the edge of this beautiful town, all that Dinan
has to offer - its
ramparts, château, timber framed houses, art and craft
galleries, restaurants, shops, Thursday morning market and
much, much more – are all within easy walking distance.
Stroll down the rue du Jerzual and rue du Petit-Fort exploring
the galleries, craft shops and the narrow streets of timbered
and stone houses, to arrive at the picturesque port with
wonderful seafood restaurants and the river Rance, where
it is possible to hire boats and cycles, or take a boat trip.
Dinan is surrounded by beautiful countryside, and with the
wonderful coastline and rocky headlands of the unspoilt north
Brittany coast within 20 minutes drive.
With uncrowded beaches, fishing, sailing, wind-surfing,
scuba-diving, walks, cycling, drawing and painting and horse
riding, there never seems a shortage of activities to take
part in.
Once away from the coast there are numerous places of historical
interest to visit and plenty of things to do. The stud farm
at Lamballe is well worth a visit; the Chateau de la Hunaudaie
(with concerts and entertainment on Wednesdays during July
and August); Cancale, for wonderful seafood; the historical
port of St Malo; Combourg with its splendid Chateau and Mont
St Michel.
For golfers there are 7 golf courses in the region. More
practically, Dinan is only half an hour's drive from the
St Malo ferryport and the airport at Dinard.
The house is an ideal base at any time of the year and is
as comfortable for winter breaks as it is in the height of
summer.
