The Local area The Brittany coast west of St Malo is very pretty with sandy beaches, rock pools, walks to little islands and is still relatively quiet. Seafood is a speciality with many local restaurants providing excellent 'Fruits de Mer' dishes. The towns of Dinan and Dinard on the north Brittany coast are nearby – Dinan with its medieval quarter stretching down to its attractive little port on the Rance estuary – Dinard, a chic seaside resort where the smart can promenade and the rest of us can watch from any of the open air restaurants. There is a morning market on most days at one or other of the local towns where fresh vegetables, seafood, cheese, and odds and ends can be bought. The bustling port of St Malo is 40 minutes away and Mont St Michel about an hour. The holiday homes to rent in Northern Brittany are around10 miles from the sea on the north Brittany coast – a gentle 20-25 minute ride to a pretty little beach at St Jacut. This beach is sandy, has its own bar in the summer months, and has lots of rock pools. The village of Corseul, 5 miles west of Dinan and around 20 miles west of St Malo. Tennis is available in Corseul, which also has bars, two restaurants, a boulangerie, a 'Spar' type small supermarket and a medical centre. There are larger supermarkets in Dinan and Plancoet. The area on the north Brittany coast has several golf courses: – Le Tronchet (St Malo Golf Club); Les Ormes: two parkland courses within 30 minutes to the east; the tough links course at Dinard and the pretty Pen Guin course overlooking the St Cast bay are both about a 25 minute drive.
